Presented in partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the exhibition showcases 120 of the designer’s works, presented alongside historical artistic influences of his work.

Positioned at the intersection of fashion, architecture and theatre, this design placed a strong emphasis on experimentation through technological & material treatment to honor McQueen’s boundary-pushing creativity.

The exhibition sees Alexander McQueen’s work distributed across four thematics, with each space distinctly different from the last. This created a textured sequence of changing environments, prioritising materiality to play a central role in the design. A fusion of high and low-tech design elements combined to deliver the exhibition, ranging from a ‘Pepper’s Ghost’ effect to render holographic imagery, to large-scale graphic wallpapers and flooring treatments, immersive light and shadow play, specialist paint applications and supporting sound design.

The NGV design team approached this exhibition with a theatrical lens, infusing drama and movement into what could otherwise be static displays, aiming to produce a sense of spectacle. The design seeks to embody the Alexander McQueen legacy, blending his diverse interdisciplinary inspirations into a dynamic, experimental experience.
